Student Support Network (SSN)

The Student Support Network (SSN) is a program administered by Traverse City Area Public Schools that provides free supportive, educational-related services and non-academic support to help overcome obstacles that may create barriers to learning for all students, ages 3-20. SSN provides backpacks, school supplies, personal hygiene items, clothing for school purposes; referrals for housing, medical and mental health needs, transitional living, and more. If your student(s) needs help overcoming obstacles, please contact SSN Coordinator at 231.933.1789 or complete the Student Support Network Request Form.

The Student Support Network is successfully removing barriers to learning thanks to community donations and programs. If you would like more information about SSN, or to donate, please visit

Traverse Heights Brownies

The Brownies of Eastern Elementary School organized a snack drive for TCAPS' food pantries. They made a special delivery to Traverse Heights Elementary School, and toured the school to learn about the House System from Mrs. Evenhouse! Special thanks to the organization Step Up Northern Michigan, a valued supporter of TCAPS’ SSN, for collaborating with the troop on this project.

SSN Caring Closets at All Buildings

Many services and support that SSN provides to students include basic needs such as clothing (including laundry assistance), hygiene items, and school supplies. School staff reach out to the SSN through a Google form, and the SSN works to provide the support or service within 48 hours. SSN is excited to announce that all buildings will have a stock of basic needs available to help students immediately.

School buildings are typically built for instructional purposes only. It is not always standard for a school building to include a food pantry, caring closet, or laundry facilities to provide students with basic needs. Thanks to donations from community organizations and individuals, as well as funding from the American Rescue Plan-Homeless Children and Youth (ARP-HCY), each TCAPS building will be equipped with a Caring Closet (stocked with basic needs such as clothing and hygiene items) and laundry facilities.
