TCAPS Junior Kindergarten Now District-wide

To provide equitable programming across the district, TCAPS has expanded the Junior Kindergarten program to all traditional elementary buildings. Some students may benefit academically or socially from the gift of a year of extra time prior to entering a traditional Kindergarten program. This program is the first year of a two-year Kindergarten experience. Families who have not yet registered for Kindergarten or Junior Kindergarten can begin the process online.

Isaac Gray

Traverse City Central High School senior Isaac Gray's quick thinking and action saved a woman's life at the Cherry Capital Airport on February 23. Isaac was scheduled to work in the airport cafe at 4 p.m. that day, but went in early due to the snow day. Not long after beginning his shift, he noticed a commotion in the cafe. An older woman was on the ground, not breathing. Gray is a student in the public safety program at Northwest Education Service’s Career Tech Center and quickly asked those around to call 911, as he began chest compressions until an automated external defibrillator was brought over. He then read through the instructions and was able to administer it on her, ultimately saving her life. Great job to Isaac!

Irish Queen

Peace Flows Concert

Thanks to a generous donation from TCAPS Music Boosters, the TCAPS Choral program was able to host Composer-in-Residence, Jacob Narverud. The donation also allowed for a week-long collaborative project, including in-class clinics and a concert on March 9, held in Interlochen. Traverse City Choirs are thankful for this incredible experience and thrilled to have performed the world premiere of “Peace Flows” as part of the concert. Bravo to all involved!

Congratulations to Traverse City West Senior High School's Orchestras and Concert Bands who performed at the 2023 MSBOA District 2 Band and Orchestra Festival at Grayling High School this month. All three concert bands (Concert Band, Symphony Band and Wind Ensemble) and both Orchestras (Symphony and Philharmonic) received straight first division or "superior" ratings from all four judges, which is the highest possible rating.
