No matter how old I get, I still love the excitement of wrapping up the school year. I still have vivid memories of being a child and running off the bus on that last day. I always felt on that first day of summer that summer would never end.
The last few weeks of the school year have been very exciting. I would like to especially recognize and celebrate the 750 students and their families that graduated from TCAPS this year. It is a major accomplishment and one of life’s special moments. I hope everyone takes the opportunity to slow down for just a bit, be present in the moment, and enjoy the feeling of success that comes from such a great accomplishment.
TCAPS is extremely proud of the exceptional educational and extracurricular opportunities that we provide for our students. We are blessed to have an incredible team of dedicated teachers, with the assistance of support personnel and administrative staff, providing such an outstanding education.
Our success, however, depends on more than an outstanding staff. Parental and community support are vital elements of any successful school system. On behalf of our entire organization, I extend my sincerest thanks to everyone who has helped to positively impact the life of a student this year. Our volunteers, Partners In Education, and collaborating organizations all play a critical role in the academic success of our students. Those efforts are truly appreciated.
Before we head into the summer, I ask that you consider taking one other important action: mark your calendar to vote on August 7, 2018. TCAPS has a capital bond proposal on the August 7th ballot. The proposal would provide $107 million over 10 years. Because of a strategic and well planned capital strategy, TCAPS is able to generate these funds without an increase to the current millage rate of 3.1 mills. TCAPS’ debt millage rate has been the same for the last 20 years and is 40% lower than the state average of 5.4 mills. Visit www.tcaps.net/bond to learn more. If you think you or others you know may be out of town on election day, then please consider applying to receive an absentee ballot. Secretary of State Absentee Voter Information can be found here.
